The girl, the bus driver and the truck driver were all flown from Fort St. John to larger hospitals, where all three are in stable condition.

The crash occurred on Milligan Creek Road north of Fort St. John, just before 7 a.m.

According to local media, the semi-truck was reportedly pulled over at the side of the road and the driver was checking a problem under the hood when the school bus rear-ended it

A second, older child on the school bus sustained minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.

The bus was on its way to the rural Upper Pine School and the parents have been notified.

"The principal was made aware right away, and is doing what she can. It's a small community and the students likely all know each other. We're doing what we can, obviously, to support those students."

The school's principal is providing support to students who know the crash victims.

It's a tough one to take young people are hurt or injured or involved as something as traumatic as an accident like this.

Milligan Creek Road will likely be closed for much of the day while investigators are on scene.
