Christchurch CBD, The public may enter the Christchurch CBD red zone for the first time next month, the earthquake in Canterbury today announced Recovery Authority.
The central city has been closed since the February 22 earthquake, but from November 5 bus tours allow Cantabrians to see the remains of their city.
CERA spokeswoman Linda Patterson said the visits will take place Saturday and Sunday until December 11.
“That is when there is so much work to be done in the CBD,” he said.
The ticket price is still undecided, but will need to cover the cost of service.
The route is also not yet finished, but is likely to include Cathedral Square and the buildings of the PGC and the CTV, where most of the victims of the earthquake were slain. However, the route is likely to change day by day as the streets may be closed due to demolition work.
The security cordon around the CBD on the day after the earthquake that spans the city “four avenues”, but in June the cordon was reduced by half. In late August, more than 11,500 people have gained access to the area through access programs.
